This study is the first comprehensive survey of the economic development of Argentina during the thirty years before 1852. It examines the economic background of the political struggles of the period; defines in economic terms, the doctrine and the program of the two major political parties; and analyzes in the light of the economic development of the country the evolution of the federalist concept in Argentina.
