This volume is based on the exhibition of Paula Trope at the Americas Society (NYC) made in conjunction wth Harvard University's Cultural Agency Initiative.
Contemporary Brazilian artist Paula Trope has acquired recent notice for the pin-hole photography she creates together with the "Meninos da Rua" (street children) in Rio de Janeiro, of which she is not really the "author" but its facilitator, instructor, and curator.
Taking Trope's work as a departure point, the volume is a critical examination of "collaborative" art projects, the status of "relational aesthetics," and the contested notion of "authorship" in artistic practices nowadays.
The volume includes an interview of Paula Trope by the exhibit's co-curator Gabriela Rangel and renowned Brazilian art critic Paulo Herkenhoff, as well as the critical texts by co-curator of the exhibit José Falconi, Doris Sommer, and Benjamin Buchloh.
