The Photographs of Baldomero Alejos
Edited by José Luis Falconi
This book is a catalog of the exhibit organized by the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University in the spring of 2006 of the recently rediscovered archive of the Ayacucho, Peru, photographer Baldomero Alejos.
As the most important studio photographer of a remote city in the Peruvian Andes for over 45 years, Baldomero Alejos's photographic archive provides a unique glance at the avatars of twentieth-century Peruvian Andean history, as it reveals, with intimate detail, the dealings of the stratified society from which Shining Path emerged in the early 1980s.
Supplementing the photos are texts by Nenita Elphick Ponce de León, Lee Fontanella, Luis Millones, and the exhibition's curator José Falconi.
