The Adams family papers constitute, as far as we know, the most voluminous and the best preserved record of its kind in our literature; in all probability it is also the most valuable and historically illuminating record as well. Born in London in 1775 to a Maryland merchant and his English wife, Louisa recalls her childhood and education in England and France and her courtship with John Quincy.
