About the CMES Book Series

Beginning in 1958, the Center has worked with Harvard University Press to produce the Middle Eastern Monograph Series. A 1980s series, Harvard Middle East Papers, supplemented the Monograph Series for several years, but since the latter’s revival in 1990, eighteen new volumes on the contemporary and medieval Middle East have been added. Now numbering close to forty monographs, the series includes the recent works Byzantium Viewed by the Arabs, by Nadia Maria El Cheikh, and a commemorative volume entitled Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University: Reflections on the Past, Visions on the Future, edited by Don Babai.

Like the Center itself, the publications program covers a wide geographic and disciplinary range and reflects the latest scholarship in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. Manuscripts and inquiries about possible publication projects are welcome and should be addressed to Susan Kahn, Chair of the Editorial Board.
