Permissions

Contact the Permissions Department for the following uses of Harvard University Press material:

  • Photocopy/Course Reserve: Permission to reproduce and distribute portions of text from Harvard University Press publications, for educational course/seminar use by students, professors, universities, and libraries, or individual/personal use.
  • Quotation Rights: Permission to quote or excerpt portions of Harvard University Press publications for use in other works, including print and non-print formats, in English or translation.
  • Alternate Format Availability: Check availability of entire Harvard University Press texts in alternate formats for the visually impaired or disabled.

To request permission to reprint materials from Harvard University Press publications, please submit your request in writing. Email requests are not accepted. Be sure your request includes:

A. Information about the material you wish to use:

  • author or editor
  • complete title
  • year of publication
  • page numbers and, if applicable, figure or illustration numbers

B. Information about your project:

  • your publisher
  • your title
  • your author or editor
  • date to be published
  • price
  • manuscript length
  • distribution (e.g. U.S only, world)
  • format (e.g. paperback)
  • number of copies to be printed

Please be sure the material you are requesting is, in fact, from a Harvard University Press book. Several other departments in the Harvard University community publish their own material (e.g. Harvard Business School Press and Harvard Magazine). Please apply directly to these sources.
