Harvard University Press has partnered with De Gruyter to make available for sale worldwide virtually all in-copyright HUP books that had become unavailable since their original publication. The 2,800 titles in the “e-ditions” program can be purchased individually as PDF eBooks or as hardcover reprint (“print-on-demand”) editions via the “Available from De Gruyter” link above. Marcia Kline’s work, which inaugurates a new series of student essays sponsored by the Committee on Degrees in History and Literature, utilizes illustrations from both fictional and nonfictional writing of the mid-nineteenth century to contrast the views of nature held in the United States and Canada during that period. Her conclusions note that while Americans romanticized their West, Canadians responded in terror to the natural world.
