Harvard University Press has partnered with De Gruyter to make available for sale worldwide virtually all in-copyright HUP books that had become unavailable since their original publication. The importance of the “Crystal” air route for flying across Arctic wastes to Europe was realized by the nation’s top planners in 1941, and Commander (later Captain) Alexander Forbes was sent on several expeditions to locate bases for military use in these areas.
