In these lectures, Walter Staub has surveyed auditing developments during the first forty years of the twentieth century and has considered the duty of the independent auditor in the years ahead. He presents this clarification of the developments in auditing theory and practice in the light of a long lifetime of experience in an environment where they could be most advantageously witnessed.
