The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies advances understanding of housing issues and informs policy. Through its research, education, and public outreach programs, the Center helps leaders in government, business, and the civic sectors make decisions that effectively address the needs of cities and communities. The State of Housing Design 2023 is the first report in a new series that reviews national trends, ideas, and critical issues related to residential design. This volume addresses issues of affordability, social cohesion, sustainability, aesthetics, density, and urbanism through critical essays, visual content, and a crowdsourced survey.
